Media: Eidos-Montreal studio is working on an Alien franchise game that survived development hell and will resemble Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Back in November 2022, insider Tom Henderson reported that a game set in the Alien universe with the codename Marathon was in development.
Since then, there was no information about this horror, but now the Insider Gaming portal has shared news about it.
What is known
Journalists learned that Marathon has been in development since 2020 and has been in development hell for a long time. Various studios worked on the game and gave it different codenames, but the project is now entrusted to Eidos-Montreal studio — creators of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as co-authors of the latest Lara Croft game released at the moment — Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This title is mentioned for a reason, as according to Insider Gaming, the authors took the game design of Shadow of the Tomb Raider as a basis and are trying to replicate it, but set in the decor of a creepy space station with deadly Xenomorphs.
The game will feature a lot of action, platforming, and puzzles. The main character of the new Alien will be an engineer named Aubrey, equipped with a grappling hook and magnetic boots. The documents also mention an antagonist Ryuza (Ryuzo) and Ripley 8 — actress Sigourney Weaver is considered for voicing this character, but no agreements have been made yet.
The game's budget has increased from the initial $30 million to $75 million, but the publisher is still unknown. The release of Alien: Marathon (provisional title) is scheduled for 2028.
