Apple is preparing to add support for the Car Keys feature for Toyota vehicles. This was reported by MacRumors, which examined the iPhone manufacturer's software.

What is Known

A few years ago, Toyota introduced its own digital key feature as part of the Remote Connect package, which allows drivers to use a smartphone to access and control the car. Now the company seems to be adding support for Apple Car Keys. This feature has appeared in Apple's backend.

Introduced in 2022, Apple Car Keys technology allows the use of an iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock a car through the Wallet app. The digital version of the key is stored in Wallet, and unlocking occurs when the devices are brought close to an NFC reader of a compatible car.

Simply touch the door handle to unlock the car. Although Face ID authentication is available as a security option, Apple offers an express mode that removes the need for authorization for even faster unlocking.

It is unclear exactly when Toyota will implement Car Keys support in its vehicles — the company has not made any announcements about this feature yet. However, the launch is likely to happen soon, as this option has already been added on Apple's side.

At the WWDC 2025 conference, Apple confirmed that 13 car brands will "soon" add digital key support. The list included Audi, Acura, Porsche, GMC, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah.

BMW, Genesis, Kia, Hyundai, Lotus, Mercedes, Volvo, and several other brands' cars already support Apple Car Keys.
