The American company Worksport has introduced a truck bed cover for the Rivian R1T pickup with built-in solar panels. Under optimal conditions, the system's power reaches 250 watts.

What is known

A compact battery is available for the SOLIS kit, which charges from the solar panels in about four hours. The stored energy can be used to power tools, lighting, camping gear, or small electronics. Charging the main R1T battery from it is not yet possible.

In the future, Worksport plans to work directly with automakers so that future versions of the solar systems can transmit energy directly to the electric vehicle's traction battery.

The cover is made using lightweight and durable aircraft aluminum. Notably, the R1T is not the only model for which the company produces solar covers. Worksport states that its products are compatible with dozens of pickups released after 2002. The list includes Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Nissan, Ram, and Toyota models, including Tundra, Frontier, and Sierra 1500.

The prices for the SOLIS cover vary depending on the size of the model's body—typically from 1999 to 2499 dollars. For the R1T, such a system costs 1999 dollars. However, a complete kit with an inverter and battery is more expensive by 949 dollars.
