The Next Generation of PlayStation and Xbox May Be Delayed: Insider Predicts Sony and Microsoft Plan Changes Due to RAM Market Problems
Sony and Microsoft are actively working on the next generation of gaming consoles. The corporations have not announced the release dates, but analysts assumed that the platforms would go on sale in the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028. However, now there is a high probability that the manufacturers will change their plans.
What is Known
Renowned insider Tom Henderson shared information that the Japanese and American giants are seriously considering delaying the release of the new PlayStation and Xbox, and this is, of course, related to the global shortage and rising prices of RAM chips.
Since mid-autumn, RAM prices have increased by tens, sometimes even hundreds of percent amid the rapid growth in demand driven by the AI boom and data centers’ needs.
Henderson believes that Sony and Microsoft will want to wait for the market situation to normalize, as they will face either a shortage of RAM or an unjustifiably high price for consoles, and consequently, extremely low sales, which would make the release of the devices pointless and lead to significant losses.
Recall that even Valve cannot set the price for the already finished Steam Machine console, which is why Half-Life 3 has not been announced yet.
Moreover, Henderson does not rule out that due to the memory shortage, there will be a price increase for the current models of PlayStation and Xbox in 2026.
