Sold! Co-founder and former head of CD Projekt becomes the new owner of the digital store GOG
The Polish studio CD Projekt announced an unexpected deal: the company sold its digital store GOG.
What is known
The new owner of the service is the co-founder and former CEO of CD Projekt and one of the authors of the idea to create GOG — Michał Kiciński (Michał Kiciński).
The deal amounted to 90.7 million Polish zlotys (about $25.2 million).
According to the statement, CD Projekt seeks to focus on game development and for this transfers GOG into the reliable hands of Kiciński, who guarantees that nothing will change for the users of the service, and the store remains committed to its former principles — games will be sold without DRM protection and internet binding. Moreover, the new owner promises to expand the catalog of classic games, which remain a top priority for GOG.
