Anthropic Introduces Claude Cowork: An Assistant That Handles Multiple Tasks Simultaneously

Anthropic has introduced Claude Cowork, a new file handling agent that simplifies computer interaction through AI. This extension is aimed not only at developers but at a broader audience.

What Is Known

Claude Cowork operates as "a simple way to collaborate with Claude" — after granting access to a specific folder on the computer, the agent can read, edit, or create new files at the user's request. For example, Claude can rename downloaded files for convenience or convert screenshots of receipts into an expense table.

The agent can also browse websites and perform actions in the browser (with the installation of an extension for Chrome) and work with external services such as Canva, thanks to the Connectors system from Anthropic. The main idea is to minimize routine: users can set several tasks in succession without waiting for the previous ones to finish, and Claude will execute them in parallel.

The company emphasizes that Claude does not have access to other parts of the computer, except for those folders to which the user explicitly grants permission. At the same time, they warn users that the agent may misunderstand a request and, for example, accidentally delete an important file. Therefore, users are advised to give the most clear and understandable instructions possible.

Currently, only Claude Max subscribers on macOS can try Claude Cowork.
