The BMW M division will launch its first fully electric high-performance vehicles in 2027. This is stated in a statement from the BMW Group.

What is known

The BMW M electric vehicles will be built on the Neue Klasse platform and will feature a new four-motor BMW M eDrive powertrain — one motor for each wheel.

The BMW M eDrive system will be combined with an 800-volt architecture, a high-voltage battery with a usable capacity of over 100 kWh, and the new BMW M Dynamic Performance Control management complex. It ensures precise torque distribution between individual wheels, which should take handling and dynamics to a new level.

The head of BMW M GmbH, Franciscus van Meel, stated that the next generation of models will set a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment. According to him, Neue Klasse technologies will elevate BMW M driving qualities to a qualitatively new level and offer users outstanding dynamics suitable for everyday use.

The Neue Klasse architecture for BMW M models features four high-performance computing units, the so-called Superbrains. They are responsible for managing driving dynamics, automated driving systems, multimedia, and comfort functions. The front axle can be fully disconnected when necessary, allowing the car to operate in rear-wheel drive mode.

In addition, BMW M will apply natural fibers for the first time in the trim of its electric high-performance models. The material is comparable to carbon fiber in properties but reduces CO₂ emissions by about 40% in equivalent terms during production.
