The history of New World is over: the game has been removed from sale, support has stopped, and the servers will be shut down in a year

The history of the multiplayer role-playing game New World has come to a logical conclusion — Amazon is closing it.

What is known

New World launched in 2021 and was touted as a “World of Warcraft killer.” Initially, the MMO enjoyed significant popularity, with peak online numbers in Steam reaching even 1 million, but soon the game was justifiably criticized for controversial game mechanics and meager content support.

It was obvious that New World wouldn’t last long, and a reboot with the subtitle Aeternum didn’t help. After a massive layoff in 2025 within Amazon's gaming division, its fate was sealed. Here is the final decision: the game has already been removed from sale, support has stopped, and New World servers will be shut down on January 31, 2027, after which it will be unavailable.

The tenth season, which started in the fall of 2025, will be the final one. The Nighthaven and Rise of the Angry Earth packs have been made free, and the sale of in-game currency ends on July 20.

We are infinitely grateful for all the time you spent with us, helping to build the world of Aeternum. Together we created something truly unique. It is sincerely difficult for us to say goodbye, and it is a great honor for us that we walked this long road side by side with the community. Thank you for being part of this world.

P.S. And World of Warcraft has been alive for more than twenty years and continues to rapidly develop...
