The Taiwanese government and the largest chip manufacturer TSMC are investing $500 billion in the US economy. The countries have signed a trade agreement, the main goal of which is to build a modern infrastructure for chip manufacturing.

What is known

The administration of the President of the United States announced an agreement that includes TSMC's previously committed investment of $165 billion, and the total amount from the Taiwanese technology giant will be $250 billion, with the second part of the package provided by the government of the country.

An important nuance of the agreement is that the US will not have access to 2nm chip production technology until TSMC masters the next-generation process — such chips will only be produced in Taiwan. Thus, in the US, the production of 2nm semiconductors will only be launched at the Samsung factory, which will start operations in 2026 in Taylor, Texas.
