It seems that Samsung has seriously intention to pump its foldable smartphones and endow them with the functions of "smart" watches.

What does it mean?

The patent titled "A folding electronic device and a method for assessing bioinformation using it" points to this. It is filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The application was filed in April last year, but the documentation was published only last month.

The patent describes a foldable smartphone that can measure heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol, stress and fatigue, and analyze the condition of the carotid artery.

Several sensors located on the outside and underneath the screen are used to take measurements. The user will need to press his palm against the smartphone, hold his finger between the two halves, or the device by both ends.

For greater accuracy, Samsung will consider metrics such as a user's gender, weight, and BMI, as well as environmental measurements such as humidity and temperature.

In general, both Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip can be endowed with such functions. But so far this is just a patent, and it is not clear whether the company will bring its idea to life.
