The cancellation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was just one decision in the context of a major reorganization of the publisher Ubisoft — the company has taken decisive steps to streamline its business.

What is known

The company announced the cancellation of six games: we have already reported on Prince of Persia, three games are completely new, which were supposed to start new franchises, and one was intended for mobile devices.

Ubisoft has delayed the release of seven games, some of which were scheduled to be released by April 1, 2026 — now the release is expected by March 31, 2027. There is a possibility that among these projects is a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which has been the subject of many rumors.

The French publisher has closed two studios — Halifax and Stockholm, one of which was developing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Layoffs will affect the office in Abu Dhabi, as well as the studios RedLynx and Massive Entertainment, and all remaining teams will be required to return to a five-day work week in the office.

As part of the reorganization, five Creative Houses will be formed, each of which will consist of multiple studios and will be responsible for their franchises and games of specific genres.

Five Ubisoft 'Creative Houses':

  • Vantage Studios has taken on the company's key franchises — Assassinʼs Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six;
  • the second direction focuses on competitive and cooperative shooters (The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell);
  • the third 'Creative House' will develop service games — For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, Skull Bones;
  • the fourth House will handle fantasy worlds and story-driven games (Anno, Might Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good Evil);
  • the fifth House got casual and family games (Just Dance, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark).

A separate team will provide technical support and other necessary assistance.

At the same time, Ubisoft is developing four new IPs, and how the company will implement such large-scale plans is a big question.
