Cool series reboot: the first showing of Fable inspired gamers — a great game awaits them this fall

At the Xbox Developer Direct show, Playground Games not only demonstrated the first gameplay of the arcade racing Forza Horizon 6, but also held a similar presentation of the long-awaited role-playing game Fable, which was announced in 2020 and will be a reboot of the once cult franchise.

What is known

As noted by the authors themselves, they had previously worked exclusively on racing games, but based on the footage shown, it seems that their lack of experience in fantasy RPGs did not prevent them from creating a worthy reboot of Fable.

The game largely repeats the legendary Fable by Peter Molyneux: familiar enemies, quest structures, magical abilities, special British humor, and the famous chicken kicks will return, but Albion will become much larger, more diverse, and richer in events.

As in the 2004 game, the plot starts from the protagonist's childhood, after which “heroic abilities” awaken in them, there is a time jump, and players will see how the young protagonist (whose gender, appearance, and race can be chosen independently) becomes a witness to a tragedy in their native village. Unlike the original, it will not be a fire but a curse from an evil mage who turned the entire village and its inhabitants to stone. And it is the search for the villain that will become the hero's main motivation.

Developers focus on a deep reputation system: every player action and choice affects how Albion's residents perceive the protagonist — they can consider them a hero or a villain.

Freedom of action is Playground's main priority — from the first minutes of the game, you can visit any location, venture into every corner of Albion, and engage in a vast number of activities. Gamers will have the opportunity to start a romance with any NPC, get married, give gifts, buy goods, do business, and engage in other activities.

Gamers received the Fable trailer incredibly warmly, even skeptics now believe that the game truly deserves attention and will be a worthy revival of the fairytale franchise.

When to expect

Fable will be released in fall 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
