Is Tim Cook Preparing a Successor? Apple CEO Appointed John Ternus to Lead One of the Company's Most Important Divisions

In October, information emerged that Apple is planning major personnel changes, during which Tim Cook will step down as CEO, and John Ternus, Apple's Vice President for Hardware Engineering, is named as his successor.

No rumor has been confirmed officially, but there is indirect evidence that Ternus is indeed up for a career advancement.

What is Known

Reputable insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Tim Cook has expanded Ternus's responsibilities, entrusting him with control over the work of the design teams.

For Apple, this is one of the company's most significant divisions, previously managed by the famous visionary Jony Ive, later by Tim Cook himself, and after that by the now-retired Jeff Williams.

Gurman reasonably suggests that Cook is thus familiarizing Ternus with as many important processes as possible, so that by the time Cook's resignation comes, his protege will be aware of all the nuances and ready to take over the management of the company. Especially since, in 2025, Ternus became responsible for the gadget development roadmaps and the overall product release strategy of Apple.

Let us recall that Tim Cook does not plan to retire until the end of Trump's presidential term, so John Ternus has enough time to learn all the internal workings of the American corporation.
