SSDs worth their weight in gold: Samsung will raise prices for NAND flash memory chips by 100%
At the beginning of the year, Samsung's co-director TM Roh openly stated that “everything is becoming more expensive” in the consumer electronics market, and according to him, this will be influenced by the global shortage of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips caused by the huge demands of AI data centers.
But he was silent about the fact that Samsung plans to raise prices for NAND flash memory chips, and now the staggering percentages of their increase have become known.
What is known
The Korean publication ETNews shared information from its own sources that Samsung has already notified key clients, such as Apple, Nvidia, and AMD, about a 100% increase in contract prices for NAND as early as the first quarter of 2026.
This will immediately cause a huge increase in SSD prices, and this, combined with the increased cost of other components, will result in only a limited number of people being able to afford building a powerful computer or buying a flagship smartphone, for instance.
Samsung is one of the largest NAND memory suppliers, and currently, in addition to the company's reorientation towards supporting AI companies, they also do not plan to increase consumer memory production volumes, preferring to maintain an artificial shortage for profit maximization.
