On January 29, 1886, Carl Benz received patent DRP 37435 for the first car with a gasoline engine - a date that Mercedes-Benz considers the birthday of the car. In honor of the brand's 140th anniversary, the company's main competitors, Porsche and BMW, publicly congratulated it.

What is known

Porsche focused on emotions and shared history with Mercedes. In the message, the brand recalled the intersecting paths of the two companies - from motorsport and iconic models to their shared hometown of Stuttgart. They separately remembered the joint project of the Mercedes 500 E in the early 1990s - a sedan with a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 326 hp, developed with the participation of Porsche and assembled in Zuffenhausen. The congratulation concluded with the thought that cars are created not only for movement but also for emotions.

BMW chose a more ironic tone. The Munich brand limited itself to a short phrase: "Fortunately, Carl Benz invented the car. This allowed us to invent the joy of driving."
