Philips has launched the world's first gaming monitor with a refresh rate of up to 1000 Hz. The model is named EVNIA 27M2N5500XD and is targeted at both esports and everyday use.

What is known

Philips EVNIA 27M2N5500XD uses a dual-mode system that allows switching between high resolution and extreme speed.

The monitor is equipped with a 27” Fast IPS panel, supporting two operating modes:

  • 2560×1440 (QHD) — up to 500 Hz, with the potential for overclocking to 540 Hz;
  • 1280×720 (HD) — up to 1000 Hz, making the model a record holder in refresh rate among consumer monitors.

The claimed response time is 0.3 ms using Smart MBR technology. Brightness reaches 500 nits, it has VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, and color accuracy Delta E < 1, making the monitor suitable not only for competitive gaming but also for content work.

Connectivity includes DisplayPort 2.1 (UBHR20) — an interface necessary for stable operation at ultra-high frequencies. HDMI and USB hub are also available.

Philips positions the EVNIA 27M2N5500XD as a versatile solution: in QHD mode, it is suitable for watching video content, streaming, and playing story-driven games, while the HD mode at 1000 Hz is aimed at esports and competitive games where maximum response speed and refresh rate are crucial.

Undoubtedly, it's cool to see such models appearing, but it's unclear how powerful a PC and how fast a gamer's reaction needs to be to realize the potential offered by Philips' monitor, since even 500 Hz is significantly higher than standard gaming monitors.

The model has already been released in the Chinese market at a price of about $720 and is preparing for a global launch.
