Electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 Completes Challenging eNordkapp Challenge Journey
The electric long-haul tractor Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 became the first battery-powered semi-trailer truck to fully complete the eNordkapp Challenge expedition spanning about 8,000 km from Germany to the Nordkapp Cape in northern Norway.
What is known
The vehicle of the Austrian logistics company VEGA International completed the route in ten days. The path went through Denmark and Sweden, including the Inlandsvägen route, at temperatures down to −41 °C.
The eActros 600 pulled a semi-trailer with a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van mounted on it. The total mass of the convoy was 32.5 tons — a configuration VEGA uses in everyday transportation. Mercedes-Benz Trucks stated that the truck was practically standard: the only modification was tires for extreme winter conditions.
During the trip, the team faced several charging challenges, including short cables, frozen card readers, and the need to disconnect the semi-trailer at some stations.
The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is equipped with LFP type traction batteries with a total capacity of about 621 kWh, providing a range of up to 500 km with a fully loaded convoy weighing up to 40 tons. The electric drive axle develops around 400 kW of constant power and up to 600 kW peak, supported by fast DC charging with up to 400 kW capacity with the prospect of transitioning to megawatt charging.
Series production of the eActros 600 started in 2024. The truck was awarded the International Truck of the Year 2025 prize.
