It seems like Borderlands 4 will never be released on Nintendo Switch 2
Gearbox studio planned to release Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 as early as early October 2025, just a few weeks after its release on other platforms. However, the game's launch was so unsuccessful that Randy Pitchford's team had to scale back their plans and urgently work on improving the technical condition and optimization of the shooter.
Soon after, the Switch 2 port was postponed indefinitely, and there is now a high likelihood that it will never be released.
What is known
From Take-Two's quarterly report (Gearbox's parent company), it became known that Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 has been removed from the company's upcoming release schedule.
In a statement to Variety, a Take-Two representative stated that the development of the port is on hold due to a number of serious reasons — it was a “difficult but necessary step.” If we translate the delicate corporate wording, it is highly likely that the game will hardly reach the popular hybrid console.
Nevertheless, the developers intend to provide extensive content support for the game and continue to optimize Borderlands 4 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
