Mercedes-AMG will release a coupe-shaped version of its upcoming electric SUV with around 1000 hp. This was reported to Autocar by AMG head Michael Schiebe.

What is known

The premiere of the SUV Coupe is expected in the second half of 2027. The choice in favor of this body type is explained by the fact that similar models already account for more than half of the brand's global sales.

The new model will be built on the AMG.EA platform. The electric SUV flagship, which will appear early next year and will be a competitor to the Porsche Cayenne, will also be built on it. Additionally, the AMG.EA will form the basis of the production version of the GT XX concept. This car will debut at the end of 2026.

The coupe-shaped SUV will have the same power architecture: an 800-volt electric system, a powerful battery, and a three-motor setup — one electric motor at the front and two on the rear axle. In the GT XX prototype, this scheme develops up to 1341 hp, so the production SUV Coupe will also be around 1000 hp.

The announcement of the new model coincided with personnel changes at AMG. Michael Schiebe, who has been heading the division since March 2023, will move to the position of head of the Top End Vehicle group (which includes Mercedes-Maybach and G-Class). His place will be taken by Stefan Weckbach from July 1.
