Like WD Black but More Expensive: SanDisk Releases PCIe 5.0 SSD Optimus GX Pro with Maximum Speed and Capacity up to 4 TB
The American company SanDisk has introduced the Optimus GX Pro — a new flagship SSD that opens a completely renewed line of consumer storage devices under the brand. The model replaces the WD Black but now under the SanDisk brand and with a noticeably higher price. Performance remains at the top level of PCIe 5.0 SSDs, but the price difference makes the novelty more of a rebranding than a technological leap.
The drive is aimed at professional PCs, AI tasks, high-resolution video editing, and top gaming assemblies.
What's Known
Optimus GX Pro uses the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and provides some of the highest speeds among consumer SSDs. The line includes versions of 1, 2, and 4 TB, as well as variants with and without a heatsink.
Main Features of Optimus GX Pro:
- read speed: up to 14,900 MB/s;
- write speed: up to 14,000 MB/s;
- IOPS: up to 2.4 million;
- memory and cache: proprietary nCache 4.0 + DRAM;
- form factor: M.2 2280;
- standard: NVMe 2.0
In the US, the novelty is already available on the official SanDisk website and on Amazon at the following prices:
- 1 TB: approximately $459–500
- 2 TB: about $920–999
- 4 TB: $1800–1949.
For those searching for maximum speed, the model is one of the fastest solutions on the market, but previous WD Black models might be more cost-effective.
