Media: Korean company Nexon has started developing a 'megaton' shooter based on the StarCraft franchise
The long-standing story of the creation of a shooter based on the StarCraft franchise continues.
In the mid-2000s, Blizzard actively explored this idea but abandoned it for various reasons. In early 2025, it became known that the Korean company Nexon is interested in acquiring the rights to the iconic franchise to create its spin-off in shooter format using their own developments.
It seems that the work on the game has finally started!
What is known
The South Korean publication Dnews reported that on February 2, Nexon and Blizzard finalized all formal agreements, signed a contract, and the Koreans have already begun full-scale production of the shooter, about which, of course, nothing is known, but it is mentioned that it will be a 'megaton project that will shake the global video game market.'
The Dnews portal reported that Nexon formed a special team that is part of the Nexon Shooter Headquarters (Shooting Division), and Choi Jun-ho, an enthusiast who released one of the most popular fan maps for StarCraft called Temple Smashing, was involved in working on the game.
Recall that in January, journalist Jez Corden expressed confidence that the announcement of the StarCraft shooter will be made in September 2026 at the BlizzCon 2026 festival, and apparently, this will indeed happen.
