TikTok launches local feed in the US amid privacy policy changes
TikTok in the US has introduced a new local feed that curates content based on the user's exact geolocation. In it, the platform recommends local restaurants, shops, museums, and events to help users "get insider information" about interesting things nearby.
What is known
Changes in TikTok's privacy policy preceded the launch of this feature. Previously, the platform stated that it only received approximate geolocation, but now, after the transfer of the American version of TikTok to a group of investors, including Oracle, it talks about collecting precise coordinates.

The new feed is disabled by default, but it can be activated in the settings. It is not aimed at finding "neighbors by interests" but rather focuses on local businesses — showing establishments, events, and shopping recommendations nearby. According to TikTok, the platform is used by over 7.5 million companies in the US, although this number is taken from Oxford Economics research conducted before the deal with investors was closed.
The idea of a local feed is not new: TikTok has been testing a similar feature since late 2025 in Europe, particularly in France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
