Psychological horror on foggy islands — Konami reveals first details of Silent Hill: Townfall and shows atmospheric trailer
Konami has finally held a full presentation of Silent Hill: Townfall — a new horror based on the iconic franchise.
The game is being developed by indie publisher Annapurna Interactive and the studio Screen Burn, which was previously known as No Code and released the games Observation and Stories Untold. Silent Hill has long been associated with psychological horror, and No Code's choice seems logical: the studio knows how to work with atmosphere, tension, and unconventional storytelling forms.
Townfall was announced in the fall of 2022 and only now have its first details become known.
What is known
The presentation was accompanied by a short but extremely tense trailer. It features snippets of video recordings, radio interference, fragments of dialogues, and shots that deliberately leave more questions than answers. No Code's style is easily recognizable: a focus on psychological pressure, a sense of the unknown, and anxious audiovisual presentation.
Although Konami did not reveal specifics, the presentation confirmed several key points:
- Townfall will be a standalone interpretation of Silent Hill and will offer a new perspective on the familiar series, literally, as it will be the first installment with a first-person view (excluding the free experimental Silent Hill: The Short Message).
- The plot will revolve around isolation and internal conflict.
- The visual presentation relies on retro aesthetics, analog devices, and distorted video signals.
Description from Steam:
Returning to St. Amelia Island to "fix everything," Simon Ordell discovers a town shrouded in thick fog. It seems abandoned but not peaceful.
Exploring the town and trying to understand his connection to this place and its inhabitants, Simon encounters fragments of the past risen from the depths here and there.
In this first-person game, Simon will explore the world, hide from enemies, and survive. He has a limited set of weapons and tools at his disposal, including a CRTV — a portable TV that can be tuned to unstable signals. Dodges are tense, battles are fierce, and puzzles woven into the plot unravel secrets that aspire to become reality.
SILENT HILL: Townfall is a standalone full-length psychological horror set on a cold isolated Scottish island in 1996.
Townfall could become the most experimental project in the franchise, although after the ambiguous reaction of gamers to Silent Hill f and the aforementioned The Short Message, this could become a significant irritant for fans.
Unfortunately, there's no word yet on the involvement of legendary composer Akira Yamaoka in the creation of the game, and without his music, Silent Hill is hard to imagine.
When to expect
The release of Silent Hill: Townfall is expected in 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5.
