Sodiumfrostglow has announced the release of an innovative flashlight powered by a sodium-ion battery — a technology rapidly gaining popularity as a more affordable and eco-friendly alternative to lithium-ion solutions, with the added advantage of resistance to extreme cold.

What is known

Unlike lithium, sodium is available in virtually unlimited quantities, making these batteries less dependent on scarce resources and geopolitical factors.

According to developers, the flashlight performs consistently at temperatures down to -40 degrees while maintaining 88% efficiency, whereas a lithium-ion battery retains 15% of maximum charge in such conditions.

Sodiumfrostglow equipped the flashlight with a modern 2500-lumen LED module with multiple brightness modes.

The flashlight's battery capacity is 10,000 mAh, providing up to 20 hours of operation without recharging (a full charge takes less than two hours).

Another unique feature of the new product is its capability to be used as a portable charger. The flashlight supports charging via USB-C with up to 10W power and can deliver 5W for charging small electronic devices such as smartphones or GPS navigators.

The casing is made of anodized aluminum, protected against moisture and dust according to the IP67 standard.

The Sodiumfrostglow flashlight is undoubtedly cool and innovative, and it will certainly come in handy for hikes, expeditions, and working in extreme conditions, but it is also important because it demonstrates the advantages of sodium-ion batteries that could change the gadget market — these batteries are cheaper and more reliable.
Sodiumfrostglow plans to expand its lineup of devices with sodium-ion elements, including power banks and lighting systems.

Currently, the flashlight is undergoing a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and early backers can purchase it for C$99 ($73). Shipping will start in May, and later the price will increase to C$119.
