Horse Powertrain and Repsol presented an efficient gasoline engine
The hybrid gasoline engine Horse H12 Concept, according to developers, allows a passenger car to travel more than 30 km on one liter of fuel.
What is known
Horse Powertrain is a joint venture between Renault Group (45%), Geely (45%), and Aramco (10%). The H12 Concept engine is a joint development of Horse Powertrain and Repsol for future models of Renault and Geely.
The basis was a 1.2-liter three-cylinder HR12 engine. It is already used in the Dacia Duster and Dacia Bigster in the mild hybrid version with 140 hp, as well as in the Renault Clio with a gasoline engine of 115 hp.
Thanks to improvements in the combustion system and reduction of internal losses, the new unit, developed in Spain, achieved a thermal efficiency of 44.2%. Fuel consumption is said to be 40% lower than the average of cars sold in Europe in 2023. Developers claim a figure of 3.3 l/100 km, although they do not specify in which car model. For comparison: the Renault Clio TCe 115 with a 1.2-liter engine consumes 5.0 l/100 km according to the WLTP cycle.
Two prototypes have already been built and tested. The first demonstration car is planned to be unveiled at the beginning of 2026. Then comes the transition to mass production of hybrid powertrains.
One of the features is the ability to use synthetic fuel, including Repsol's Nexa 95 gasoline. Its components are 100% renewable – these are organic waste, by-products of agriculture and forestry, and used vegetable oils.
