The extraction shooter ARC Raiders became one of the most successful games of 2025, and a year earlier the competitive shooter The Finals made a lot of noise. Both games were released by Embark, which consists of a small team and operates with modest budgets by big company standards, but this does not prevent the Swedish team from posing serious competition to them.

The Korean company Nexon, which is the publisher of The Finals and ARC Raiders, was so impressed with the work of Embark Studios that it made its head, Patrick Söderlund, one of the leaders of the publisher.

What is known

Söderlund will join Nexon's board of directors and take on long-term strategic planning, as well as overseeing the creative direction and game development. Meanwhile, he will remain the CEO of Embark Studios.

Nexon has all the necessary assets for explosive growth, exceptionally talented developers, iconic franchises, an engaged player community, and advanced capabilities in the service game sector. Nexon CEO Lee Jung-hun and I share a vision for the company's development and are ready to get started.

Such a decision by Nexon is quite justified since Patrick Söderlund has more than twenty years of experience in the gaming industry. He was a co-founder of the studio DICE and one of the creators of the mega-popular Battlefield franchise. He left DICE in 2018, founded Embark, and is now accelerating game production through the active use of AI. In just a few months, ARC Raiders sales exceeded 14.5 million copies, with three more games in development.

It is worth noting that Nexon is developing a shooter based on the StarCraft franchise and most likely future work will be led by Patrick Söderlund.
