Print gaming magazines are already a thing of the past, but Red Bull not only remembers this format but makes it literally interactive.

What is known

Red Bull, together with the company Tetris, released the GamePop GP-1 Playable Magazine System, which is a functional gaming device because it can launch Tetris.

In the center of the cover is a small ARM chip device with a flexible printed circuit board. It uses a panel of 180 RGB LEDs as a display, and capacitive sensors are used to control the "bricks." The battery lasts for 1-2 hours of gameplay, after which the magazine can be charged via USB-C.

This unusual device was invented by engineer and designer Kevin Bates, who previously released the portable Arduboy console the size of a business card.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to buy such a magazine, as only 150 copies were produced, which were received by participants in the Red Bull Tetris World Final, which took place at the end of 2025 in Dubai. Those who are nostalgic for printed editions can buy the magazine "Game Pop. The Culture of Play," which tells about the history of the gaming industry and its impact on mass culture. But it doesn't have Tetris on it.
