Who will save Nacon? The publisher of Styx and RoboCop is on the verge of bankruptcy
The French gaming publisher Nacon has been active: just a few days ago, the stealth-action game Styx: Blades of Greed was released, which delighted players and critics. Several ambitious projects are in development, and the Nacon Connect presentation is announced for March 5, where some of the upcoming new releases will be revealed. However, it has become known that Nacon's "future" may not come to pass.
What is known
Nacon is on the verge of bankruptcy and has officially declared its insolvency! It cannot meet its obligations to investors and creditors, which usually ends with the company's closure.
The fact is that Nacon's largest shareholder, Bigben Interactive, could not repay a bond loan, as banks rejected its request. Because of this, Nacon is urgently conducting a "financial restructuring with creditors to ensure continuity of operations."
The publisher's own financial resources are insufficient to cover its obligations, and to avoid pressure from creditors, Nacon is forced to declare itself bankrupt — this will allow it to gain time to find resources, restructure debts, stop accruing interest and penalties, and save itself from closure.
The court will consider Nacon's request in early March.
It is still unclear whether the publisher will be able to avoid collapse and continue operations, but one hopes that a company that has been in the gaming market since 1981 (!) knows what to do in crisis situations.
Recall that Nacon owns the studio Spiders (creators of niche Steelrising and GreedFall), Cyanide (creators of the Styx trilogy), and several other companies. It is a publisher of third-party projects, the most successful of which has been the shooter RoboCop: Rogue City, and in its free time from games releases peripheral accessories.
