Apple and Netflix announced a content partnership dedicated to Formula 1. The companies have agreed to jointly stream select projects, including the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place in May, as well as the new season of the popular documentary series Drive to Survive.

What is known

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix will show the Canadian leg of Formula 1 simultaneously with Apple TV. At the same time, the eighth season of Drive to Survive will be available on both platforms. The premiere is scheduled for midnight local time. The series, created by Netflix, tells about Formula 1 drivers, their teams, and the behind-the-scenes of the championship, and is considered one of the key factors in the growing popularity of racing in the US.

Apple's Senior Vice President of Services, Eddy Cue, stated that Drive to Survive played a crucial role in popularizing Formula 1, and the new partnership will help make content even more accessible to the American audience.

Apple acquired rights to broadcast Formula 1 races last year in a deal valued at approximately $150 million per year. The company is actively expanding the presence of sports in the US, signing additional agreements, including screenings of individual stages in IMAX theaters. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali stated that the collaboration with Apple will allow the championship to surpass the metrics of the ESPN broadcasting era and attract a new audience.
