It's February 27, which means the global release of the highly anticipated horror Resident Evil Requiem has taken place, marking the ninth installment in the cult zombie series.

What is known

PC users, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 can already start exploring the thrilling story of two characters - FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and fan-favorite Leon Kennedy.

Critics published their reviews a few days ago, revealing that Requiem is one of the best parts of Resident Evil, and according to Metacritic scores, it has 88-92 points (depending on the platform), ranking only behind the Resident Evil 4 remake with its 93 points.

In the first hours after release, Resident Evil Requiem received 92% positive reviews on Steam. Gamers are excited about Capcom's game, praising its atmosphere, gameplay, and most importantly, its technical execution, which many new releases lack. The peak online number on this platform was 267,500 people—a great figure for a single-player game, and it will surely grow significantly over the coming weekend.

For those unaware

The main focus in Resident Evil Requiem is on FBI agent Grace Ashcroft and bioterrorism agent Leon Kennedy. Episodes with Grace resemble RE7 and are built on the principle of classic survival horror: the heroine is practically unskilled in using weapons, tires quickly, and cannot endure many monster attacks, so she prefers to hide from them but can stand her ground in extreme situations.

Episodes with Leon are more action-oriented and may remind players of Resident Evil IV, where Kennedy was the central character. He is an experienced and well-trained fighter, easily battling even the most dangerous creatures. To make the game more interesting, Requiem has added more brutal finishes that depend on the chosen weapon. The DSO agent can use a variety of items in the fight against mutants, including chainsaws and axes.

Gamers will visit completely new locations and iconic places in the destroyed Raccoon City, such as the legendary police station from Resident Evil 2. The storylines of both characters are equally engaging, and their interactions are interesting to follow.

Another important innovation is the unique zombies, which have retained some remnants of their former personalities and automatically repeat learned actions, such as a creepy butcher covered in rags and body remains, monotonously wielding a cleaver in a deserted kitchen.
