The failure of the ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone has been reported repeatedly by insiders, and additional confirmation came with the cancellation of the corresponding 2026 model and a return to the "Plus version".

Samsung has not commented on its failure with the Galaxy Edge, but now a top manager of the Korean company has indirectly confirmed it and shared interesting information about the TriFold smartphone and the upcoming unusual novelty.

What is known

Bloomberg interviewed Samsung's Head of Developments Won-Joon Choi, who reported that the ultra-thin Edge did not meet the company's expectations, and the creation of a new model is currently not being considered.

The situation with Samsung's first Trifold smartphone is more complex. It debuted in Korea in December, and each batch was sold out within minutes. Later, the same situation was repeated in the USA and other countries, despite the price reaching $3000 with a recommended price of $2400.

Nevertheless, the company has not decided whether to release a new model since the development of such a gadget turned out to be extremely complex and required enormous financial and technical resources.

In conversation with journalists, the developer hinted that Samsung may release a "wider folding smartphone" — obviously, it's about the Wide Fold, which has been rumored for a long time. It was reported that in an unfolded state, it would have an unusual aspect ratio of 4:3, likely like the future iPhone Fold. It is expected that both gadgets will be released in the fall of 2026, and if successful, will set a new trend in the foldable smartphone market.

Interestingly, Won-Joon Choi admitted that the main feature of the new Galaxy S26 Ultra is the Privacy Display mode, which prevents outsiders from seeing information on the screen — it was supposed to appear in the 2025 flagship, but due to complex technical solutions, it had to be postponed. Importantly, the Privacy Display may also appear in more budget models.
