Volkswagen began developing its electric vehicle direction in 2013 with the launch of the Volkswagen e-up! and has since steadily expanded its range of BEVs. The total includes not only the current ID. family models but also early electric vehicles, including the Volkswagen e-Golf. According to the company, the brand holds leading positions in the electric vehicle market in Germany and Europe and is among the largest BEV manufacturers in the world.

Three models played a key role in reaching the two million mark.

  • Volkswagen ID.3 — about 628,000 vehicles delivered. This is the first model on the MEB platform, which opened a new chapter in the brand's history, becoming the first representative of the ID. family in 2020. An update of the model is expected soon.
  • Volkswagen ID.4 — approximately 901,000 vehicles delivered. This crossover is one of the main drivers of the brand's growth in global BEV markets. In addition to Europe, key markets remain China and the USA.
  • Volkswagen ID.7 — about 132,000 vehicles delivered. The model debuted in 2023 as a fully electric sedan, later joined by the ID.7 Tourer estate.

In 2026, Volkswagen plans to launch four new electric vehicle models on the market. The first will be the ID. Polo.
