Bloodborne could have received a remake: Bluepoint Games was ready to make gamers' dreams come true, but Sony and FromSoftware did not allow it
The gaming community is widely discussing the closure of Bluepoint Games studio. Sony acquired the studio in 2021 and assigned it extremely strange tasks, such as the development of a service game based on God of War, while Bluepoint had established itself as a developer of excellent remakes of classic games.
For many years there was a rumor about a remake of the famous hardcore action game Bloodborne, which was allegedly handled by Bluepoint Games, but there was no confirmation. And only now have they appeared.
What is known
A few days ago, insider Detective Seeds mentioned that among the canceled projects of the closed Bluepoint was a Bloodborne remake, but since this author is little known to the public, few paid attention to his words.
However, everyone knows Jason Schreier and his words carry weight. In a new material published by Bloomberg, he reported that the Bluepoint team repeatedly expressed their readiness to take on the update of the unforgettable 2015 game, and each time Sony obstructed it. At the beginning of 2025, the developers made another attempt, and this time the management was not opposed to releasing a Bloodborne remake, but the creators of the original game from FromSoftware opposed this.
The head of the Japanese studio Hidetaka Miyazaki has repeatedly expressed his reluctance to return to Bloodborne, although he noted that it is a special game for him, and as those who know him have said, because of his perfectionism he is not ready to trust it to any other developer, although in the case of the Demon's Souls remake, he did not interfere with Bluepoint, and the result of the American studio's work was above all praise.
As a result, with Bloodborne, an amazing situation develops: the game turned out to be mega-successful, remembered by millions of gamers, many dream of its release on PC, PS5 users have not yet received a full patch, and the continuation of the hardcore action game is no longer even spoken of aloud — but all this could have been realized! But for mysterious reasons, nothing is happening, and now Bluepoint, which could certainly have made an excellent remake, is being shut down.
