BYD has started deploying high-power charging stations with a new design. Rumor has it that their peak power can reach 1.5 megawatts.

What is known

Last year, BYD introduced electric vehicles capable of receiving up to 1 megawatt of power. According to the manufacturer, these models can get up to 400 km of range in five minutes according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is primarily focused on urban mode.

Recently, new charging stations of unusual design began to appear in China. Social media users and specialized automotive blogs have noticed T-shaped turquoise complexes, which differ from the previously presented Flash megawatt stations.

Last year's Flash stations (pictured under the headline), rated for up to 1,360 kW, had a more traditional design and were equipped with two cables — one on each side. According to photos of information plaques published by Chinese bloggers, some of the new stations can deliver up to 1,500 kW, or 1.5 megawatts.

BYD has not yet made official statements about the launch of the new generation of charging equipment, and company representatives have not commented on the appearance of the stations.

In the Chinese market, brands such as XPeng, NIO, and Zeekr already have their own fast-charging networks. Despite BYD's large business scale, the company did not have its own developed charging infrastructure even in China until recently. Instead, the manufacturer collaborated with independent charging station operators and offered its customers partnership programs.

Now BYD is actively increasing its presence in the charging infrastructure segment. Initially, the company announced plans to build 4,000 of its own stations. In mid-2025, it was announced that the program would be expanded by another 15,000 points — through partnerships with operators who agreed to use BYD equipment. As of today, there are at least 500 first-generation stations with a capacity of 1 MW operating in China.
