Miyazaki's Opposition Stalls Bloodborne Remake Due to Demon's Souls Jealousy
In the investigation of why gamers never got the Bloodborne remake that the unjustly closed studio Bluepoint Games wanted to release, a new and unexpected version has emerged.
What is known
Recall, in a detailed piece by Jason Schreier it was mentioned that the Bluepoint Games team approached Sony several times for permission to start work and was met with refusals. And in early 2025, the Japanese corporation was not opposed to such a project, but it had to be abandoned due to the firm stance of the studio FromSoftware — the creator of the original Bloodborne (2018).
Additional information was provided by the authoritative insider Jeff Grubb, who claims that the creative director of FromSoftware and one of the most famous Japanese game designers Hidetaka Miyazaki personally blocked the development of the updated version of Bloodborne because he feels dissatisfied and irritated by the remake of his game Demon's Souls, which Bluepoint released in 2020. It is noteworthy that, according to critics and gamers, the American studio did an excellent job, preserving all the mechanics and locations of the game in their original form while bringing the graphics and visual design of Demon's Souls to a qualitatively different level, so it's hard to say what Miyazaki was dissatisfied with, and his behavior seems more like jealousy than constructive criticism.
Grubb's message was confirmed by another insider — NateTheHate, who also heard about the dissatisfaction of the FromSoftware head with Demon's Souls (2020).
It is noteworthy that the rights to Bloodborne are 100% owned by Sony, and legally there were no grounds to refuse a remake of the game due to Miyazaki's opinion, but apparently, his authority is so great for Sony that the company did not want to upset him.
