Resident Evil Requiem Shatters Records: 5 Million Copies Sold in Under a Week!

The main topic of the past week in the gaming community was the release of the horror game Resident Evil Requiem. The new Capcom game received high scores from critics and created a sensation among players — 95% positive reviews on Steam, and on Metacritic, Requiem daily competes with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for the title of the highest-rated game by community ratings in the aggregator's history.

What Is Known

No one doubted the huge sales of Resident Evil Requiem, but the starting numbers may surprise even the most optimistic players — more than 5 million copies of the horror game have been sold on all platforms in less than a week.

The latest update of the "Capcom Platinum List" reminded us how successfully these series' games sell, and Resident Evil Requiem could very well take the lead, as the novelty has already set a franchise record.

For comparison:

  • The initial circulation of the Resident Evil 2 remake in January 2019 exceeded 3 million — it is currently the best-selling game of the series;
  • sales of Resident Evil 3 Remake in April 2020 exceeded 2 million copies in the first five days;
  • in March 2023, the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake sold 3 million copies in its first 2 days, but reached 5 million copies only after six months;
  • the previous numbered part, Resident Evil Village, sold 5 million copies by the eighth month of sales, but in the first days of May 2021, bought 3 million copies.

On March 22, 2026, the Resident Evil series will turn 30 years old, and by this date it has sold more than 183 million copies — it is the most successful zombie game series, and Capcom clearly does not intend to stop there.
