Lotus Unveils 939 HP Eletre PHEV: Faster Than Electric Model, Challenges Lamborghini and Ferrari
Lotus Company presented a plug-in hybrid version of the Eletre crossover. The new model will enter the European market this summer.
The model is iconic: the Geely Group brand returned the internal combustion engine after the previously announced course to full electrification.
In China, the PHEV version is presented as a standalone model under the name For Me. A different designation is likely to be chosen for Europe.
Powertrain and Dynamics
The hybrid system combines a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine and one synchronous electric motor on each axle. The total power is 939 hp.
The acceleration time from standstill to 100 km/h takes 3.3 seconds—faster than the fully electric Lotus Eletre R, whose maximum power reaches 892 hp.
During the presentation, Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng noted that the new model is aimed at competing with the Lamborghini Urus and Ferrari Purosangue. Meanwhile, the Urus is now only offered as a PHEV with 789 hp.
Battery and Range
For Me is equipped with a 70 kWh battery. The electric range reaches 354 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. The total range is stated to be 1,416 km.
The battery supports fast charging under the "6C" standard—from 30% to 80% in eight minutes.
Chassis and Weight
The model received the 6D Digital Dynamic Chassis system. According to the company, it reduces the sway effect characteristic of large SUVs.
The curb weight ranges from 2,575 to 2,625 kg depending on the configuration, which is comparable to the fully electric Eletre.
Prospects
Previously, Lotus declared its intention to fully transition to electric vehicles by 2028. However, Eletre and Emeya sales were below initial expectations, forcing a plan adjustment. At the end of the nine months of 2025, the company's operational loss amounted to $357 million.
According to Qingfeng, the launch of the PHEV will help increase sales in markets with a slower transition to electric vehicles, including Italy and Saudi Arabia, as well as improve the brand's financial performance.
