Apple Abandons iPhone Flip Plans: No Vertical Foldable in Sight

There have been several reports online that, in addition to the first Fold-style foldable smartphone, Apple is also developing its own Flip model. Such gadgets from other brands are very popular, and there's no doubt that a novelty from the American company would attract the public's interest, but today it became known that this idea will not be realized (for now, at least).

What is known

The portal MacRumors, citing its own sources, reported that Apple has abandoned the release of a Flip version of the iPhone. The first reason for this decision was the opinion of the company's analysts that vertical folding smartphones do not offer fundamentally new use scenarios, and their only advantage would be compactness when folded.

The second argument against the iPhone Flip was the technical complexity of the design. The crease between the screen halves would cause many compromises and cast doubt on the design's reliability, and Apple would have to reduce the battery capacity, which is already not high in iPhones.

Thus, fans of foldable gadgets are now left to wait for the release of the iPhone Fold Ultra (or iPhone Ultra) in fall 2026. Most likely, the new product's price will be $2000, and its main difference from similar models will be the 4:3 aspect ratio of the internal screen.
