MG Unveils Affordable 7-Seater Plug-In Hybrid SUV MGS9 in UK, Undercutting Rivals by Thousands
MG Motor has launched its first seven-seat crossover with a plug-in hybrid system — the MGS9 — into the UK market. The new model will be priced from £34,205, which is significantly cheaper than competitors in the large SUV segment.
What is known
The model is considerably more affordable than its competitors. For instance, the hybrid Volkswagen Tayron is more than £10,000 more expensive, and the Skoda Kodiaq with a hybrid setup is approximately £8,000 more. Moreover, neither offers the combination of PHEV and a three-row interior.
The length of the MG MGS9 is about 5 meters, which is 330 mm longer than the five-seat MG HS PHEV. Even with all three rows of seats up, the trunk volume reaches 332 liters, and with the third row folded, it increases to 1000 liters.
The crossover is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 1.5-liter turbo engine, an electric motor, and a battery with a capacity of 23.2 kWh. Exact specifications have not been disclosed, but the setup is expected to be similar to the MG HS PHEV system, which develops 295 hp and 350 Nm.
The electric range reaches 100 km, which for many owners will allow for daily trips without starting the petrol engine.
Inside, there are two displays under a shared glass panel, with some functions still operated by physical buttons. The equipment includes three-zone climate control, heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, as well as up to 16 driver assistance systems.
In Euro NCAP tests, the model received a five-star safety rating.
Sales of the MG MGS9 in Europe will begin later this year. The crossover is already sold in other global markets under the names MG QS and Roewe RX-9.
