Starfield Soars to PS5: Major Free Lanes Update and Terran Armada DLC Announced by Bethesda
Publisher Bethesda shared major news about the space role-playing game Starfield.
The controversial RPG was released in 2023 and has a mixed reputation, but today the development team led by Todd Howard announced ambitious plans for the game's development.
Xbox loses one of its main exclusives
Bethesda officially confirmed that Starfield will be released on PS5 on April 7. The game will be available in digital and physical formats in two editions — standard for $50 and premium with all additional content for $70. Everyone can already pre-order and receive bonuses.
Importantly, Starfield prices on PC and Xbox Series will also be adjusted downward.
Simultaneously with the PS5 release, Starfield will receive the Free Lanes global update and the full-scale DLC Terran Armada
The Free Lanes update focuses on refining key mechanics and deepening Starfield's gameplay systems. Key changes include:
- Revamped space flights. A "cruise mode" has been added to the game, which can be enabled at will. It allows you to freely move between planets within a single star system. Just set a route and activate autopilot – after that, you can leave the pilot’s cabin, explore the ship, or chat with the crew;
- expansion of the game world: new locations, activities, random events, side quests, and underground zones have appeared;
- ship constructor updates: new elements and modules for customization added;
- added X-Tech system, deepening crafting. It allows you to upgrade equipment and weapons (including changing their legendary properties), and improve ship components using a new type of resource;
- new enemy features: opponents can have additional armor, increased mobility, elemental damage, and other enhancements;
- new transport for surface traversal of planets;
- a new pet appeared;
- a unified resource storage for all constructed outposts;
- updated database section in the character interface;
- collectibles in the form of figurines with permanent bonuses (similar to bobbleheads from Fallout).
- new companions: Muria and mini-bot;
- Starborn abilities strengthened;
- item transfer feature in "New Game+" – you can keep part of the inventory for the next playthrough;
- additional photo mode and camera settings.
The Terran Armada expansion will cost $10 and for this money, developers offer a new storyline dedicated to the confrontation with the Terran Armada — a fleet considered disappeared after the Colonial War and suddenly returned with the intention to establish its own order.
A new companion has also been added — a reprogrammed drone of the Terran Armada named Delta, who can join the player's crew.
An invasion system will appear: on the star map, the activity zones of the Terran Armada will be shown – battles take place at these points, participating in which you can earn valuable rewards.
Among other innovations:
- new ship models and additional modules for their improvement;
- new types of equipment;
- a new crew member — compact robot ModelG;
- an expanded set of decorative elements for setting up outposts.
Furthermore, developers have prepared a small bonus: during the presentation in the Trackers Alliance expansion, new content appeared, available in the Creation Club for 700 credits to make waiting for players more enjoyable.
