Amazon has acquired the Swiss startup Rivr, which specializes in autonomous robotics. The deal has been confirmed, but its financial details have not been disclosed.

What is known

Rivr is based in Zurich and was previously valued at $110 million during an investment round in August 2024—back then, investors included Amazon and the Bezos Expeditions fund. The company develops a new type of robots—they combine four legs and wheels, allowing them to move effectively on complex surfaces, such as stairs or uneven areas. The company recently presented the second generation of such robots.

Amazon explained that the acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to invest in research and automation. The company believes that Rivr's technologies can enhance safety and improve the delivery process for partners and couriers.

Amazon is actively implementing robotics in its logistics. Last summer, the company announced the launch of its millionth robot at its facilities. In the future, it plans to automate up to 75% of all operations, which is expected to speed up deliveries and reduce costs.
