The Reddit platform is considering introducing new user verification mechanisms to reduce the number of bots. This was stated by the company's CEO Steve Huffman during an interview for the TBPN podcast.

According to him, one of the simplest options is the use of biometric methods like Face ID or Touch ID. Such tools allow confirming a person's physical presence through touch or facial recognition. At the same time, Huffman emphasized that this is just one of the possible approaches.

The company is also exploring alternatives — including decentralized services or solutions without mandatory document provision. In a stricter version, identity verification services using ID could be applied, but this creates additional barriers for users.

The bot problem on the platform has worsened in recent years: they are used not only for spam but also for covert experiments and content manipulation. Against this background, Reddit seeks a balance between combating automated accounts and maintaining anonymity.

Huffman emphasized that anonymity remains a core value of the service: the platform does not seek to know users' personal data but wants to ensure there is a real person behind the account.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian also commented on the idea, noting that the fight against fake content is necessary, but the introduction of facial scanning might cause skepticism among users. The company has not yet made a final decision regarding the verification mechanism.
