Explore the Afterlife with Fields of Aaru: A Whimsical Egyptian Farming Adventure Awaited in 2026

The mythology of ancient Egypt depicted the afterlife as a creepy place where darkness and despair reigned. However, indie studio Zymartu Games offers to deconstruct this view and look at life after death from a more optimistic perspective, announcing the cute life simulator Fields of Aaru.

Like in Stardew Valley, but with Egyptian deities

The game takes players to the mythical place of Aaru — the Egyptian equivalent of paradise. The hero ends up there after death and doesn’t seem too upset about it, as it presents a bright world, friendly neighbors, and a vast number of leisure opportunities.

As always in such simulators, in Fields of Aaru one can engage in various activities: exploring the world, building houses, setting up homes, interacting with characters, but the main focus is on farming. The hero needs to plant fields, grow wheat, take care of irrigation, and timely harvest and process crops.

For those who find farming boring

After finishing domestic chores, players can go on expeditions to explore the vast open world, search for oases, and investigate ancient tombs in search of secret knowledge. Another feature of Fields of Aaru is offerings to the gods, allowing players to gain in-game bonuses, such as accelerating crop growth or increasing the hero's health.

To unlock new regions, players need to restore obelisks — these also serve as fast travel points.

When to expect

The release of Fields of Aaru is scheduled for the end of 2026, currently only on Steam.
