When Elon Musk announced the creation of xAI, it looked like a gathering of leading specialists in the field of artificial intelligence. Experts from DeepMind, OpenAI, and Google Research joined the project to create an alternative to ChatGPT. However, two years later, the company faced significant personnel changes.

Mass Employee Departure

The situation with the departure of key personnel in xAI is causing concern. Out of the eleven co-founders who were at the core of the company, only Ross Nordin remains — today it became known that Manuel Kroiss became the tenth among the key participants to leave the project.

Since the beginning of this year, the company has also lost specialists like Wu Yuhuai, Jimmy Ba, Toby Pollan, Zhang Guodong, and Dai Zihan. The departure of specialists of this level may indicate internal disagreements or the high workload associated with work processes in the company.

Technical Difficulties and Personnel Measures

In March, Elon Musk acknowledged that xAI currently lags behind competitors, especially in the area of code generation. This created additional challenges for the company, which initially relied on the high technical level of its solutions.

To compensate for personnel losses, xAI began reviewing previously rejected candidates. At the same time, Musk strengthened his personal involvement in management and initiated the transfer of engineers from Tesla and SpaceX to assist the xAI project.

Financial Expectations and Prospects

Despite personnel difficulties, financial expectations for xAI remain high. Following the convergence of SpaceX and xAI projects, the projected market capitalization of the combined structure could reach $1.5 trillion. A significant part of these expectations is based on investor trust in Elon Musk and the prospects of a potential IPO of SpaceX, which is planned to be filed soon.

The question of whether the remaining team can maintain resilience and achieve their goals remains open. The current situation demonstrates that the company's development is taking place under significant pressure and high competition.
