Exodus: Is This the New Mass Effect Challenger with Matthew McConaughey in Space?

Archetype Entertainment studio presented a new gameplay teaser for the action RPG Exodus.

Gamers have long seen in this game a 'spiritual successor' to the legendary Mass Effect series, and while Bioware studio is working on a new part of the franchise, its veterans, and now, as we see, also competitors, are preparing their own epic space opera, which may well surpass the story of Commander Shepard.

What is known

Recently, Archetype published a gameplay teaser of its game and at that time, they showed both the combat system and the exploration of locations equally, but now the developers have focused exclusively on the shootouts.

From the new shots, it is impossible not to feel the vibe of Mass Effect: the brave main character, armed with futuristic, but quite realistic weapons, leads two comrades into battle, gives them commands, they use unique abilities, take cover from enemy fire, and systematically defeat aggressive aliens, breaking through to their goal.

One can say that the gameplay of Exodus is somewhat banal, as most of what was mentioned can be seen in many shooters/actions over the past 15 years, but in Mass Effect, it was implemented as organically as possible, and it seems experienced game designers have not lost their skills and will repeat their success in Exodus, and possibly even reach a new level of quality.

For those who are not aware

One of the main features of Exodus will be the uneven flow of time on different planets. Players may leave a place for just a few days, and upon returning, it turns out that centuries have passed there, and the situation has fundamentally changed. In this regard, the game resembles the famous movie Interstellar.

The focus of the game will be on Wanderers — a group of people who explore space and encounter hostile forms of alien life. Their task is to find and take certain artifacts from the aliens that will help humanity survive on unfamiliar planets. It is indicated that each artifact will influence the gameplay of Exodus.

The role of one of the main characters in Exodus is played by famous actor Matthew McConaughey, and the script and the foundations of the game universe are being created by the well-known Canadian scriptwriter of Ukrainian origin, Drew Karpyshyn — he is the one who created the global lore of Mass Effect.

When to expect

The release of Exodus is expected in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, and in the summer, developers promise to hold an extensive gameplay showcase.
