The grand success of the Stellar Blade action game became a golden ticket for the Korean studio Shift Up to the top league of the gaming industry. Its head immediately became one of the richest businessmen in Korea, several ambitious projects were launched into development, including the Stellar Blade sequel, and today the company made another strategic move.

Excellent Acquisition

Shift Up announced the acquisition of the extremely promising Japanese studio Unbound, founded by the legendary game designer Shinji Mikami.

This is a developer with 30 years of experience who has created franchises such as Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and The Evil Within, and also produced the creative rhythm-action game Hi-Fi Rush and the mystical action game Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Shift Up acquired 100% of Unbound's shares and will directly publish all its projects, the first of which will be a AAA game for a new IP for PC and consoles.

What's Next?

Shift Up and Unbound published a video dedicated to the merger, in which Shinji Mikami, Kim Hyung-tae (head of Shift Up), and the Unbound team discuss the collaboration. But more interesting is that huge roots protruding from the studio's walls and ceiling, as well as several strange creatures, can be seen in the background. This is likely a hint at the setting of the first joint game of the two companies.
