Samsung announced the termination of its proprietary app Samsung Messages. According to the announcement, the service will be unavailable from July this year. Users are encouraged to switch to Google Messages as the primary tool for messaging.

What is known

After the transition, users will receive support for the RCS standard, which includes sending media in high quality, group chats, and typing indicators. Synchronization of messages between different devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, will also be available.

Google Messages integrates Gemini artificial intelligence capabilities that allow content to be handled directly in chats. At the same time, some personalization features will not be presented in the new application.

The company has been gradually abandoning its own messenger over the past few years. Starting with the Galaxy Fold 6 and Flip 6 models, as well as the Galaxy S25 series, Google Messages is installed by default on devices. Samsung Messages is still available in the Galaxy Store, and the final disconnection date will be announced additionally.
