Amazon informed users about the discontinuation of support for older Kindle devices and Kindle Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier. The company sent the appropriate warnings via email.

What is known

Starting from May 20, 2026, users will no longer be able to purchase, download, or borrow new books on these devices. At the same time, access to already downloaded content will remain — it will be possible to read previously purchased books without restrictions.

The list of models affected by the changes includes the first generation Kindle, Kindle 2, Kindle DX, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4 and 5, Kindle Touch, as well as the first Kindle Paperwhite. The company explains that these devices have been supported for 14 to 18 years, but technologies have significantly advanced during this time.

Important nuance: in case of a factory reset or deregistration, such devices may become unusable. At the same time, other functions on Kindle Fire tablets will remain available, although downloading new content will be blocked.

According to Amazon, the changes will affect only about 3% of users. The company is already offering them a 20% discount on new models and bonuses on e-books when upgrading the device by June 20.
