The idea of creating an ambitious film adaptation of the iconic stealth-action series Metal Gear Solid, whose creator Hideo Kojima is a huge fan of cinema began in Hollywood, and even when technology did not allow it, he tried to erase the line between games and movies, and ultimately succeeded.

The Metal Gear Solid film was announced back in 2014, and since then, work has not progressed, however, finally, Sony Pictures has revealed the directors who will bring the famous franchise to the screens.

Sony's Choice

The film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid will be directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, a directorial duo that demonstrated a stunning result in the new thriller 'Final Destination Bloodlines' (Final Destination Bloodlines), which premiered in May 2025.

These directors are currently under a lot of attention in the world of big cinema, so Sony Pictures rushed to sign an exclusive contract with them.

What the Parties Say

Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, stated that Lipovsky and Stein are masters at creating gripping stories, demonstrating incredible skill with visual effects and skillfully crafting tense scenes. Therefore, he is confident that the team under their leadership will be able to offer a worthy adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

The directors, in turn, noted that they have great respect for Kojima's high-paced espionage games and commented on the upcoming work:

Metal Gear Solid was nothing less than a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring to life Hideo Kojima's iconic characters and unforgettable world.

It is not yet known which part of MGS will form the basis for the film, it is quite possible that it will have an independent plot; in any case, fans should be pleased that work on the adaptation has finally moved into the active phase.
