Elon Musk's XChat Launches: Encrypted Messaging App to Hit iOS with Privacy Concerns
Elon Musk continues to expand his X-ecosystem and after the successful launch of the new XChat messenger, which replaced the direct message section on Twitter/X, he is opening access to it for mobile device users.
No Announcement and Not for Everyone
The XChat page appeared in the AppStore today, but neither the developers nor Musk made any announcements. For now, the app can't be downloaded — this possibility will appear on April 17.
It remains unknown whether the new messenger will be released on Android devices, but it is most likely only a matter of time.
Musk positioned XChat as an encrypted private messenger, however, the AppStore states that the app requests access to a large amount of user data, including geolocation information, search history, and contacts.
Key features of the messenger:
- end-to-end E2E chat encryption by default;
- disappearing messages;
- video calls;
- group chats;
- blocking attempts to screenshot conversations.
